All I Want To Do Is Prune Some Trees
At the back of my house there are some trees. Tall trees. They haven't been pruned for at least thirty years and are too big for the garden. So I want to get them pruned.
I contacted a local tree surgeon, and was given a quote. A lot of money, but probably reasonable for the amount of work required.
They wanred me that I would need to get approval for the pruning, because we are in a Conservation Area. Not to worry, though, it's a free application.
So I went to the Scottish Government's ePlanning website and started my free application. And true enough, the application process is free. However, it requires a location plan and I don't have one of those.
Helpfully, the ePlanning website offers links to two companies that sell location plans.
One of them just didn't work for me - every time I logged in it re-presented me with the login dialog box. So UK Planning Maps it was.
The other gave me a nice interface, via which I was able to order a location plan. I was offered the plan in a variety of formats, from which I chose JPG so that I could load the plan up into Photoshop and add appropriate annotation. I paid my money and downloaded my plan.
After adding red and blue boxes to show where the trees could be found and where the boundary of my property lies, I started going through the upload process. But then I noticed that the planning system demanded that there be a North indicator and a scale on the plan. And my plan had neither!
So now I am waiting until MOnday to contact the company and find out what I did wrongly.
